We know from our own experiences that working conditions and environment can have a huge impact on a person’s mental health and recent reports suggest one in 6.8 are experiencing mental health problems in the work place. Women in full time employment are twice as likely to have a common mental health problems as full-time employed men. Evidence also suggests that 12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions and It has been estimated that better mental health support in the workplace can save UK business up to £8 billion per year. Surely it is better to support your employees to be in work and be productive through creating policies and procedures that do not discriminate against people from all walks of life from poor mental health. We need to work with employers to support them in doing this by telling them what we need. The government need to stop just talking about mental health and put some real money into helping and supporting employers to do this.
